Sifu Keith Collyer is the founder and head coach at Gutter Wing Chun . With nearly 3 decades of martial arts experience, Keith’s journey began after an active youth spent in the Royal Marine Cadets, competing in cross-country running for Sussex, a stint in the Territorial Army and playing American football for the Crawley Raiders.
His passion for martial arts was sparked by Kamon Wing Chun, where he trained extensively and became an instructor under Sifu Bill Bostock. Keith began exploring practical self-defence disciplines. His search led him to Krav Maga, where he was drawn to its focus on mindset, psychology, and real-world threat response. He completed an intensive 18-day Krav Maga Instructor Programme and launched his first class in Crawley.
Balancing railway shift work with evening classes, Keith eventually transitioned to teaching full-time—driven by a mission to empower others through effective, realistic self-defence training. All through this time he kept up his wing chun training, mostly private with his then Sifu Was Hussey to complete the whole wing chun system and gain his 5th degree black sash. With his vast knowledge of self defence training in many other systems over the years, he has trained in Eskrima, Libra Knife , Thai boxing, Boxing, Gained his Blue belt BJJ under professor Keith Makenzie ( a neck injury stopped Training for a while ) Gutter wing chun was Bourne from the respect and tactics of Gutter Fighting from Fairburn and Sykes ( world war 2 Combative) and Keith’s experience of self defence and dirty tactics to blend with his wing chun to create the Gutter Wing Chun fight system! Sifu Keith loves the wing chun system but got fed up with the bad press and many wing chunners practicing the pat a cake slappy wing chun that would not, in his opinion, knock the top off a rice pudding ! Sifu Keith has developed his system to broaden how he looks at Wing Chun, and uses built in redundancy so more chance of it working under pressure, also he delves deeply within the traditional system to work with movement and principles rather than just technique.
He is currently putting ideas and experiences in place to write 2 books, one Gutter Wing Chun and the other Conflict Survival Training.
